MCP Quickstart

Get your AI assistant connected to EquipDash in under 5 minutes.

ChatGPT, Claude and other AI apps: sign in, no keyโ€‹

On every plan, an AI app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth connects with the server address alone:

  1. In EquipDash, open Settings > API & Integrations > AI apps.
  2. Copy the prompt into your AI app, or follow the steps shown there for ChatGPT, Claude or another app. The server address is https://app.equipdash.com/mcp/v1.
  3. Sign in to EquipDash when the app asks, pick the business, and click Allow.

The rest of this page is for connecting with an API key (Pro plan), for your own agents and for clients that cannot sign in with OAuth.

Step 1: Generate an API Keyโ€‹

  1. Go to Settings > API & Integrations in your EquipDash dashboard
  2. Click Create API Key
  3. Select Live key type
  4. Enable these scopes:
    • MCP Access (required)
    • Any read/write scopes for the data you want to access
  5. Copy the generated key (starts with eqd_live_)

Step 2: Configure Your AI Assistantโ€‹

ChatGPTโ€‹

  1. Open ChatGPT (desktop app or web)
  2. Go to Settings > Connected Apps (or Settings > MCP Servers)
  3. Click Add Server and enter:
    • Name: EquipDash
    • Server URL: https://app.equipdash.com/mcp/v1
    • API Key: Your eqd_live_... key
  4. Save and restart ChatGPT

Claude Desktopโ€‹

Edit your Claude Desktop configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"equipdash": {
"url": "https://app.equipdash.com/mcp/v1",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer eqd_live_your_api_key"
}
}
}
}

Restart Claude Desktop after saving the configuration.

Geminiโ€‹

  1. Open Gemini and go to Settings > Extensions (or Settings > MCP)
  2. Click Add MCP Server and enter:
    • Name: EquipDash
    • Server URL: https://app.equipdash.com/mcp/v1
    • API Key: Your eqd_live_... key
  3. Save and restart Gemini
tip

MCP is an open standard โ€” any AI assistant that supports MCP can connect to EquipDash. Check your AI tool's documentation for MCP configuration instructions.

Step 3: Verify the Connectionโ€‹

Once configured, try asking your AI assistant:

"List my recent bookings"

or

"How many products do I have?"

The AI should call the list_bookings or list_products tool and return real data from your EquipDash account.

Step 4: Try Common Tasksโ€‹

Here are some things you can ask your AI assistant:

  • "Show me today's bookings" โ€” View all bookings for today
  • "Is the Mountain Bike available next weekend?" โ€” Check product availability
  • "Create a booking for John Smith..." โ€” Create a new booking with preview/confirm
  • "What's my revenue this month?" โ€” Get a revenue summary
  • "Show me customers named Sarah" โ€” Search your customer database
  • "What items are in the workshop?" โ€” Check workshop status
  • "Apply promo code SUMMER20 to booking #1234" โ€” Apply discounts

Troubleshootingโ€‹

"Authentication required" errorโ€‹

  • Verify your API key starts with eqd_live_ (not eqd_test_)
  • Check the key hasn't expired in Settings > API & Integrations
  • Ensure the Authorization header is correctly formatted: Bearer eqd_live_...

Tools not appearingโ€‹

  • Confirm the mcp:access scope is enabled on your API key
  • Add the relevant read/write scopes for the tools you need
  • Restart your AI assistant after configuration changes

"Insufficient scope" errorโ€‹

  • The tool requires a scope your API key doesn't have
  • Edit your API key in Settings > API & Integrations to add the missing scope

Connection timeoutโ€‹

  • Verify you can reach https://app.equipdash.com/api from your network
  • Check that your IP is whitelisted if IP restrictions are enabled on the API key

Testing with curlโ€‹

You can verify your API key works by sending a raw MCP request:

curl -X POST "https://app.equipdash.com/mcp/v1" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer eqd_live_your_api_key" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"jsonrpc": "2.0",
"id": 1,
"method": "tools/list"
}'

This should return a list of available tools based on your API key's scopes.
